Star’s Summer Wedding Fever

This summer’s celebrity wedding season has already brought us numerous beautiful wedding dresses, from Kate Moss’ romantic John Galliano dress to Reese Witherspoon’s pink Monique Lhullier to, of course, Kate Middleton’s stunning Alexander McQueen gown fit for royalty. Let's take a look back at the summer 2011 styles that have made it down the aisle so far.
One of Britain’s most fashionable women, Kate Moss, did not disappoint with her wedding dress for her July 1 nuptials in St. Peter’s Church in Southrop, England. The slinky dress, embellished with rhinestone embroidery, was inspired by Zelda Fitzgerald’s dress. But it was not without controversy: The dress was designed by longtime Moss friend John Galliano. While Moss hasn’t commented on what made her choose the disgraced designer, photographer Roxanne Lowit said, “Kate was always there [for Galliano]. She was like his family, his sister, his muse.” The Galliano dress was not the only one Moss wore at her wedding: Stella McCartney designed the model’s first-dance dress and the party dress that Moss wore at the reception.

For her second marriage, Reese Witherspoon chose a pink, not white, wedding gown. At her March 26 wedding to agent Jim Toth, Witherspoon wore a custom-designed Monique Lhuillier gown with a lace corset bodice and full tulle a line skirt. The gown was embellished with a double-face silk ribbon with silk flowers, which matched the dress for the maid of honor, Witherspoon’s 11-year-old daughter, Ava, who wore her own custom-made Lhuillier dress. For the reception, Witherspoon wore another Lhuillier gown—a white silk minidress with a party skirt.
With an estimated two billion people tuning into her wedding, all eyes were on what dress Kate Middleton would choose for her royal nuptials. The future Duchess Catherine of Cambridge chose a dress by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. The gown was an ivory and white silk gazar with hand-embroidered English and French Chantilly lace and 58 organza-covered buttons snaking up the back. The v neck featured long lace sleeves and a train that measured nearly nine feet. Middleton changed into another McQueen dress for the queen’s luncheon, a strapless white gown with a sweetheart neckline, a circle skirt with embroidered detail, and it was all topped off with a white angora bolero cardigan.
Ugly Betty no more, America Ferrera wore Amsale's Christos’ dress for her June 27 wedding to Ryan Piers Williams on her co-star Vanessa Williams' lawn. The ivory strapless gown, made of lace and tulle, had a drop waist and a tiered pleated tulle skirt. Ferrera accented the dress with jewelry by Fred Leighton.
The Friends With Benefits star may not be walking down the aisle anytime soon with her former longtime boyfriend Macaulay Culkin, but Mila Kunis got to play bride this summer anyway. Filming a wedding scene for the upcoming comedy Ted, Kunis wore a strapless mermaid wedding dress embellished with lace to "marry" Mark Wahlberg on-screen.

The July 2 wedding of the late Grace Kelly’s son, Prince Albert, could not have been anything but elegant. After a long romance, he married Charlene Wittstock, who wore a Giorgio Armani Privé gown. Made of off-white duchess satin, the straight-line dress was embellished with floral embroidery and had a long train and crossover detail that formed a second “à l’andrienne” train. Armani said in a press release that he wanted to “go for a completely modern look, without any obvious sense of nostalgia or revivalism.”

For country stars Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, only a Southern wedding would do. The singing pair married on May 14 at the Don Strange Ranch outside San Antonio, Texas, and Lambert went traditional and kept her dress in the family. The bride wore her mother’s wedding dress and custom-made Casadei cowboy boots. Wedding planner Kathy Best told Us Weekly that the pair wanted the wedding to “to reflect their personalities—old fashioned, laid-back, and fun.”
There’s nothing like pregnancy to trump a wedding, but British singer Lily Allen still managed to shine at her July 11 wedding to Sam Cooper at St. James Church in Cranham, Gloucestershire, England. Cooper announced Allen’s pregnancy at a wedding breakfast and dress designer Delphine Manivet confirmed the news. Manivet designed a vintage-inspired, long-sleeved, empire waist wedding dress, which consisted of an underdress, covered by a lace gown. Allen topped off her look with a 1920s-inspired full-length veil with floral embellishments.
The wedding may not be happening for The Hills’ Kristin Cavallari, but she still had the opportunity to have a bridal photo shoot for Life & Style. Just two days before the MTV reality-TV star and her former fiance, NFL athlete Jay Cutler, broke off their engagement, she tried on gowns and talked about her plans for what was to be a traditional wedding. "I want a romantic, mystical wedding, with lots of flowers," Cavallari told the tabloid. Though it may not be with Cutler, hopefully, she’ll have it one day.
